They are quite diversified. Cigarettes are a small part of their business. If you look into a lot of the companies you own, I'm sure you would find lots of questionable practices- Child labor, overpaid executives, questionable tax strategies, etc.. Recognize that the world is far from perfect, and do what you can to take care of yourself and each other, just like Greg says.
It’s the parent company of Philip Morris...#1 tobacco company in the World. I thoroughly investigate the companies I buy stock in and avoid companies that contribute to killing people by addiction.
Do you own stock any food companies? Restaurants? Food addiction is a much bigger killer worldwide, and these companies tailor their foods to make people addicted. What about alcohol? Same thing. If you own any such stocks, then you are just as culpable with these as any tobacco company.
Our financial system is ruining the world. Do you have any stocks in banking companies? Talk about unethical companies. What about the EV and electrical battery industry? The mining of rare earth minerals is destroying the environment, to say noting of having to dispose of spent batteries. And let's not forget the traditional oil companies like XOM and CVX. If you believe the Green Movement propaganda, then you should not be invested in any of these either. Name a company, 9999/10000, there will be something that can be found to be objectionable. At this point, anyone who chooses to smoke, knowing it's addicting and detrimental to one's health, has made their choice. Moreso than in many other circumstances related to the detriment they experience from many other companies, where they suffer but don't get the short term enjoyment and stimulation they enjoy from smoking.
Ridiculous? Diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease are directly linked to obesity, which is due LARGELY(pun intended) to food addiction. Any fast-food company or restaurant chain, any company that churns out foods containing MSG and high-fructose corn syrup, is contributing directly to food addiction, leading to obesity and poor health outcomes. And unlike tobacco or alcohol, people need food to live. People get unwittingly addicted to food because THEY HAVE TO EAT! People choose to pick up tobacco, they don't need it. I'm not saying purveyors of tobacco products aren't preying on people, but at least be honest regarding the other companies that prey on people in other ways.
You’re correct. Processed and fake food is extremely unhealthy. That’s is why we only eat organic foods. I even make our bread. Tobacco is way more harmful. Both of my parents and several relatives died of tobacco related illnesses. My lungs are compromised from growing up in a house full of secondhand smoke. I personally, could never invest in a company whose mission is to sell more products that knowingly kill people.
I did some research on dividend stocks, started investing in Altria a while ago, and has gone up nicely. Definitely a good recommendation. In a similar vein, recently started averaging into BIPC, also pays a nice dividend, worth considering.
Greg, nice dividend for sure but how do you tobacco as a good investment? I thought smokers were on the decline. Or is Altria moving into psychedelics and weed?
I love MO. Already have it. Sin stock! lol
M.O. as in mo' crypto?
Greg, I have had MO for years and they are a cash COW that pays a great dividend and increases it every year.
How could you buy stock in a cigarette company?

No I don’t. And comparing food to tobacco is ridiculous.

They tell me if I don't vote, I shouldn't complain. So, as a shareholder I now have a vote.
Already in portfolio. In hard times people need their smokes. And they are diversifying
thanks Greg!
Love love MO and their dividend. I hold it in my HSA brokerage. LOL
This economy will create lots of chain smokers! CSV only makes sense too.. So sad, but true.

Any thoughts on KMI. It also pays a nice dividend

Thank you Greg!!! Sorry if I sound ignorant (I’m not very experienced) but isn’t a P/E ratio of $38 excessively high? I love your videos!!!!!!
Thanks Greg!
Considered by some to be a cannabis play. Who on Earth is better equipped to grow pot?
Greg, nice dividend for sure but how do you tobacco as a good investment? I thought smokers were on the decline. Or is Altria moving into psychedelics and weed?
They have e cigs.
Thanks. Looks like there was some controversy about it that was settled in February. 😎
