NCLB required Algebra II for high school graduation. This destroyed vocational education in most high schools. This is why mechanics and HVAC people can demand LOTS of money for their work now.
Genuinely curious about why requiring Algebra 2 would be a problem? That’s a pretty basic class. Are you meaning it takes away from more practical math application studies? I’ve always felt like I and my children too were shortchanged in learning basic math concepts. I can do advanced algebra though!😂
for the kids in autoshop, welding and wood working, it is NOT needed. Those students used to get half a math credit while in those classes for obvious reasons. NCLB took all that away because then they had to take Geometry followed by Alg II instead of just Algebra I and a business math type of class. This nation is running out of mechanics and other professions because of that. I have been a teacher for more than thirty years of mathematics.
