Huge THANK you for sharing and teaching what you know about trading.

What software do you use or recommend? I am a new young lion trying to learn how to trade and wanting to pivot. Been following you for almost 1 month and I would like to jump into the world of trading. God bless you

Esteban, I use TD Ameritrade and the ThinkorSwim trading platform and they do charge .65 cents per trade but sometimes free isn't always the best, plus they have the best education that you can study that will increase your knowledge about options trading and paper money to practice trading before you jump into the market with real $$$. There are many others but I recommend TD Ameritrade. I hope this helps!!!

Hello William

First of all really appreciate your response and taking time to reply with your helpful feedback.

Is it true a minimum balance of 25K is needed to perform this type of trades? Thank you

Expand full comment

Esteban, No you can trade with a lower balance as long as you get qualified for options trading, and some brokers require you to have a minimum balance of $25,000 to be a patterned day trader, but if you open a cash account and request options trading, fund your account with a couple grand you can start trading these exact options that Greg suggest. Start out small and have several small positions, and if a trade cost more than you are willing to spend then don't buy and wait for the next. I suggest taking some options trading courses so you will understand it is that you are trying to accomplish, and that is TAKING PROFITS IS #1 RULE, put the money in the bank and don't look back move on the the next opportunity!!! Good Luck and I hope this helps.

Thank you again William

this is just great news and very helpful. will do the research and jump into this asap. I am mostly into crypto via coinbase and this just gives me another way to pivot and learn something I had always had interest in but was just scared to lose but Greg and this community have helped me look into it with a different set of lenses and looking more feasible than ever. THANK you 🙏

I am new to options. Say you have an investment portfolio (stocks, cash, precious metals, etfs) of about 100k, how much would you typically spend per option contract? Thanks for any ideas.

Expand full comment

Spend as much as you're willing to lose entirely. Options are magnitudes riskier compared to the other investments you listed. Unlike good stocks, metals (10y+ bull market just starting), you have an expiry, so it's a risk-all trade.

Thanks mate! Just trying to figure out what are wise ‘bets’. I see your point. Thx

risk is different for every individual. best to do research on options trading generally before diving into greg's trades imo, especially see my comments on his recent posts re: lions getting worse spreads than he is for a few reasons (timing, crowded trades, people pumping/dumping his trades)

When you want to BUY a CALL option, you "Buy To Open".

When you want to close that position, you "Sell To Close".

Make sure you always select a Limit Price, NEVER a Market Price.

Expand full comment

if buying a call or put, Buy to Open. Conversely close to sell. Always choose limit. Quantity of options is how many 100 shares do you want to control? Day means good to 4pm. Usual option. You may want GTC aka good to cancel if trying to snipe a low price to buy or high price to sell. Some of those moves happen after hours or when you are not on your trading ap. Fill or kill, not 100% sure. Google that. Same with the rest you listed. Google those, i've been trading months without knowing or using them. I K.I.S.S. as much as possible.

Thank u very much ! This is very appreciated. Would u suggest a KISS platform ?

Interactive Brokers is very nice for options too if you want another option. Greg has been hating TDA/TOS lately. IB is harder to use though.

I find TD Ameritrade Think or Swim somewhat intuitive if you play with it. ROBINHOOD may be more intuitive but RH went down on us day of crash (February?) And cost us all money. I don't trust them as a 3rd party counter risk. No reason they couldn't go bust being relatively new. I do use them to hold a low amount of crypto ($1800) that I speculate with & skim profits back to my bank account. People talk of Webull but it's a very robust platform and i find it complex. You may want to throw a few bucks in and see if you like it You are very welcome.

Thanks was actually about to ask the reason for buying long dated calls

Expand full comment

What do you mean by jun 18 2021 etc.

Expand full comment

That's the expiry date of the options contract he bought.

Expand full comment

So he doesn’t pull out at that date, just whenever he makes good enough profit?

Expand full comment

Yes pretty much. Normally, you wouldn't hold the options until expiration since they are slowly losing time value the longer you hold them.

Expand full comment

What if they expire in the money ? Do they still loss value

Expand full comment

No, but you have to have the cash to buy all those shares in your contract. Most everyone sells them off before that point.

Expand full comment

Robinhood says I don't need the shares and will exercises the contract as if I do so much conflicting info is that just roobinhood

Expand full comment

Yes, if you hold them until they expire, they expire worthless.

Expand full comment

Not if it's in the money they don't

Expand full comment

He will sell to close the position well before that date. If he holds on to it right up until the expiry, the trade will expire worthless.
