Farewell Ed. Obituary.
Farewell to Nevada's Ed Hall. Pearl Harbor Survivor, WWII Veteran. Ed passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 2nd, 2022 at the age of 99 years.
Ed Hall was the last known Pearl Harbor survivor in the state of Nevada. Ed served in the US Army Air Corps stationed at Hickam Field Hawaii.
Ed was recognized on the floor of the US Senate for Courage Under Fire for his actions on that fateful day of Sunday, December 7th 1941, "A DATE WHICH WILL LIVE IN INFAMY." While under Japanese attack, Ed and a medic sped around Hickam Field airbase in a truck gathering up the wounded and bringing them to the field hospital. On their 3rd trip back after dropping off the wounded, Ed's truck was strafed by a Japanese Zero Fighter- bullets ripped through the truck and cabin, blowing out the rear tires, and took it out of action. Ed and the medic escaped un-harmed. Ed saved lives that day, and that makes him a true to life HERO.
Ed was loved by everyone who met him, and all he wanted was to make people happy! Ed was a true gentleman, a man of GREATNESS from The Greatest Generation. A man of Honor, a man of Courage, A Patriot in the truest sense of the word.
Ed is survived by His Son Darold, his stepdaughter Nikki, and many, many friends.
Ed's stories of heroism and retelling of a firsthand account of what really happened on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, have been published many times here in the Las Vegas Review Journal. His accounts have also been published in many books, including A Sunday in Hell.
Ed's last wish was that his ashes be distributed on the runway at Hickam Field Hawaii, and this wish will be granted. This will be his final resting place, back where he lost so many of his friends.
As a final tribute let me say this... I love you Ed, and you will be forever on our hearts, Greg and Lorraine.
Hero Ed Hall will have a public funeral service which will be held on Veterans Day, Friday the 11th at 3PM and the MMT located on 2200 W. Mesquite Ave. Las Vegas NV 89106
Beautiful. The funeral is on Veterans Day very appropriate. You all will be in my mind, heart, and prayers. Rest in Peace Big Ed
Great tribute Greg, I had seen the admiration you had for Ed over the years. You always talked about him and his great service. Although I am not an American I have met one other survivor from Pearl Harbor A man named Harrold Estes several years ago. He invited me and my family for a private tour not for the public aboard the admiral barge and we got to see the back part of pearl harbor where nobody is permitted. He was 96 when I met him in Hawaii on vacation and actually met him on the USS Missouri battleship. He told me of that time when he was there also during the attack. Great respect for the men of this era. Thanks for sharing Greg and only fitting that he will forever remembered on the greatest day , Veterans day. Rest Ed and thank you for your service... you deserve this and you earned it.. Cheers from Canada.
