I am opposed to open borders and illegal immigration.. However, how about the fact that none of our proud citizens want to get their hands dirty working retail or behind fast food counters or working the fields or doing general grunt work. Maybe...just maybe... these people coming in will take those jobs nobody wants. Did anyone think of that? So the next time people need a sales clerk or need landscaping done and there's no proud, hard working Americans to fo it, you just might be grateful for anyone to help you.

Gov Abbot loaded a bunch on to buses and dropped them off in DC, but that was certainly just optics. I've also seen videos of illegal immigrants people being handed manila envelopes with plane tickets to cities around the country, although who knows if that's true. We would be smart to trust 0% of any politician's words, motives, or actions. Same goes for the media.
I, for one, don't presume to know whether the wall is good or bad - except to say that it's not an easy answer. Spanman is correct that it could be used against Americans just as easily as not. Nor do I think that the threat is Mexicans per se, but rather a wave of people the system can't easily support and/or bad operators posing as Mexicans.
I know it's highly unlikely that an actual, boots-on-the-ground invasion would take place, but I also know that these are unprecedented times, and it can not be doubted that the Texas/Mexico border is where that would begin. Not a warm fuzzy feeling for someone living a few hours from the border.
So, while you were probably just being glib, I wonder if you asked the same of the Pacific NW citizens when the riots were happening in 2020. Or the Washington DC residents when the US Govt put fencing around the govt buildings. Or, for that matter, the 90% of the sheep around the country/world who have been cowtowing to authority since this shit storm began.
