Yep, used to do that with the "from Microsoft, something wrong with your computer" scam from Bangalore. Keep them busy for an hour only to tell them at the end that I'm running Linux and not Windows. They stopped calling and I kind of miss trolling them. Maybe I made the "do not call" list after all.
The scammers are everywhere, their posting ads for non-existing properties, their on dating websites, etc. Its only going to get worse, as people become desperate for money, they will turn to crime. Right now its non-violent "when people lose everything, they lose it".
That is a very good question. To me, of all the factors there are only two that matter: saving as many people, having a future.
1. Saving as many people. Warning people, by being active on comments and having conversations with people in real life - most people are beyond saving, many of those that can be saved you probably will not get to influence them at the right time, that's in gods hands. The best you can hope to do: shine a light at the danger and hope the people seeing it, act. Think of it like being a lighthouse, its up to the ships to decide whats best for them. A little note, I may have mentioned god and saving people but I'm really talking about this psychical existence.
2. Having a future. To me the battle (again on this world), being fought is a pro-human future vs a anti-human one. The system, all of it is so corrupt, completely rotten through, that saving it, can't happen. The only option is to build something new: but how, with who and when? Well the who is pretty easy, despite our nature to just want to be left alone, we are all congregating together online, in this we are gathering the means to move and gather resources. So what and where... I think that process is ongoing. If I we're to hazard a guess- and it is a complete guess- I suspect when the central planners, lose control of the situation an opportunity for a new nation will come about.

It's obvious that they use a stolen image to which they hold no rights and it's also obvious that they are trying to impersonate someone. YouTube could end these scams by requiring KYC; it's that simple. Oh wait, they couldn't use bots to boost their favorite channels for payment then, silly me.

the problem is that when the scammer post a message there is an email send by youtube as well, so deleting the comment only solves half the problem
