The number one rule of investing: Never invest more than you can afford to lose.

If you lost your life savings, (of which I truly feel for you), than you broke the first rule of investing, and obviously invested more than you could afford to lose. Learn from your mistakes and become a better investor!

Franco. Exactly right. Money management is the most important rule you learn as a gambler in Las Vegas or Monaco. Is there any discernible difference between a casino bettor and Wall St. investor? They both have the same desire. To win and not lose, if it can be avoided. Money managing serves to this end. If you depart from intelligent investment and let your emotions dictate the strategy, then the old adage “A fool and his money are soon parted” rules the day. We have all been there at some time in our lives. It’s not a fun place to be. We learn from our mistakes and try not to repeat them.
