When I'm gambling at the casino I always walk with 90 percent of what I am up. So if I start with a hundred dollars and get it up to 200 dollars I am going to walk with 180 dollars everytime.
I set win limits and loss limits as well.
It makes it easier to win when you have an amount of money you want to win when you go gambling in the casinos.

Another little riskier thing you might want to consider is "ORC" (Real estate , more specifically selling and buying of RMBS), yes they are heavily beat down, but can you argue with a 17.70 % dividend ? I can not. Especially with investing a low amount of money and applying DRIP.
Market is fighting to sell off...yet the 10YY opened much higher and is remaining higher, despite the sell off. This is indication the market is moving higher.
I apply Greg's nibble tactic to selling as well as to buying the dips. On a pop, I nibble. I took about 4% of my DVN off the table this morning. The market is like walking on thin ice - so I take very small steps. lol

Also, put a bit of that into shorting QQQ and some bank shorts...since the latter are at the top of their downtrending channel. QQQ is either bull trapping, side-channeling or reversing trend...I don't think the trend reversal will set into place until UA surrenders...which should be quite soon.

Although the trend is up, oil and natural gas can have some sharp pullbacks.
I think taking profits, when trading, after a good run-up to lock down gains makes a lot of sense.
Technical analysis can really help with picking entry and exit points.
