Good point!

Wouldn't retail sales $ increase just from the price increases? Retail sales are probably actually down substantially with the huge % increases in costs I have seen in my area...everything has increased 20-30% over the past year.

It's to cost 4 times as much to do a BBQ this year. That's just for grilling hot dogs too!

We gave away a few billion on Ukraine again. So congress can get their donation kick backs. looks like this year is moving into a full roll of fake problems that congress is makin up. But I'm sure it's just me that see this crap.

F consumer inflation.

I’m buying Cardano, Silver, Gold, and Bitcoin.

I buy whatever groceries are on sale, stop caring about “brand”. I Buy what is healthy, but buy the best price.

Yea, I’m paying more.

But I’m not going to make REAL GAINS to beat inflation in my kitchen pantry.

These people are being distracted from the market and risk off assets w CREAMED CORN………

This is All nonsense.

Yes, lots of youtube videos telling people to stock up now and I don't mean only prepper videos.

People like me who live in the country have always "put up" food and other supplies. A lot of the young people quit doing that though. I used to can hundreds of jars of food a year. All of us country people did. Haven't canned in a while but still keep stocked up on everything. Old habits. So there is nothing to chill from. I just keep doing my thing as always. But it looks like people are getting worried.

Expand full comment

It's not just inflation that worries me; it's the continuing breakdown of the supply chain. Buying power is real/important but when there's no food to buy ... that's as serious as it gets.

TBH, even the people here that follow Greg seem to not grasp how bad it's going to get. Yes, we hear the collapse will be 'biblical' and the words 'total collapse' but focusing on what that actually looks like is a very difficult/scary thought process. That's the healthy mind's normalcy filter kicking in, yet there's plans/choices that have to be made now. Window for doing so will close.

Imagine this ... you're on high blood pressure meds now and you feel fine now. What will you be like should you miss a month when you're under the duress of a financial/social collapse? Pick any medication you're on and envision your life after the collapse without it. Venezuelans don't even have freakin' Tylenol.

Imagine no baby formula, no meat, no veggies, no fuel, no electricity.

Yeah, I'm a prepper. The old saying is old because it's the key to survival:

Hope for the best but ALWAYS prepare for the worst.

How ? 15% real inflation and retail up 3.8% That means a drop in retail sales of 11.2%

Immediate stimulus checks are needed and should be made permanent.

Expand full comment

How about this? “While 'adjusted' retail sales soared 3.8% MoM, the unadjusted retail sales data for January collapsed by a record 18.5% MoM.” That’s some serious adjusting just like Covid cases, labor numbers, inflation, and side effects. Unbelievable!
