Unfortunately, so much of what is written in the Bible has been taken out of its proper context and contorted to paint a picture that has nothing to do with what is happening today.
This passage in Matthew you've cited, for example, was recording Jesus speaking to real live people -- his disciples, who were standing right in front of him, concerning things that were to take place in their lifetime concerning the destruction of the temple that stood in that day -- and those things, the Fall of Jerusalem, took place in the first century (70 AD).
See the verses that immediately preceded your quoted passage...

I'm afraid people looking for a "return of Christ" have fallen for a great deception. The Son of man already returned. The Mystery of what is laid out in the book of Revelation is history.
