What strike and expiration? I wouldn't worry, you havent lost 25%. What you are likely seeing is the profit/lost being calculated based on the "mark" price which is the midpoint between the bid and ask price.
I'm confused. How does the strategy of selling puts against the underlying stock work out? I see that you will get the dividend and also the premium from selling puts. Am I missing something?
I agree, you could want to have the shares if you sell calls and want to avoid margin on it. I think having the share is not necessary for selling puts.

No it’s not necessary. I sold some puts on JP Morgan but I don’t own the stock or calls.
